Putin Approves Creating Messaging App
The Ministry of Digital Development revealed that the app is being developed in response to security issues found in popular messaging services like WhatsApp and Telegram.
The initiative is part of efforts to ensure safer communication channels for national use.
The proposed app is said to share similarities with China's WeChat and could be based on the Max app, which was created by the Russian tech company VK, according to reports circulating in Russian media.
Once completed, the messaging app is anticipated to come pre-installed on all new smartphones sold within Russia.
It is also expected to become a mandatory tool for operations in public institutions across the country.
