Macron Signals Preparations for Talks with Putin
"It is being prepared, and so discussions are taking place at a technical level," Macron told journalists during a trip to northeastern France, a newspaper reported.
Macron added, "I think it would be useful, but I don't think Russia is currently willing to conclude a peace agreement (with Ukraine) in the coming days or weeks."
The French leader highlighted the necessity of maintaining contact with the Kremlin to secure post-war safety assurances.
"In this context, it is important that Europeans restore their own channels of discussion," he was cited as saying by the newspaper.
Macron also reaffirmed France's ongoing support for Ukraine, condemning Russian strikes on the country's energy infrastructure as "intolerable" and pointing out that they do not show a "genuine willingness" to negotiate for peace.
